Character Interview with Shale (Waveling Launch Tour)

Hey, readers! To celebrate the upcoming release of Kaytlin Phillips' novel Waveling, I'm doing an interview with her main character, Shale! Let's get right into it. 😉

About the Book:

Everyone was made for a reason. Whenever anyone is removed from this world, it affects us all. Ever since failing to save his sister from the giants, Shale has struggled to come to terms with himself and the Spirit. 1. Hello, Shale! I'd love for you to tell us a bit about yourself!

*shuffles feet in the sand* I'm a Waveling SeaTamer, have twin younger brothers, and an older sister that I failed. *hangs head* I can never forgive myself for that.

2. What's your favorite activity?

Making Sea-Dragons out of the waves of the Inken Ocean, it helps me forget my mistakes.

3. Who are the most important people in your life?

My younger brother Rivier and Zee, they are the reason I keep going. My only reason to keep going since I failed our older sister, Rio.

4. What are your hobbies?

I have no hobbies. *Shale stares dramatically into distance*

5. How do you spend your days?

Trying to forget my mistakes. I am a SeaTamer, which means I protect my village from the monsters lurking in the depth of the Inken Ocean, but how can they trust me to protect them when I couldn't even protect my own sister?

6. Tell me about your community (favorite thing about it? Least favorite?)

It's tight knit . . . and it's tight knit. Everyone is always in my business, which is good when it comes to helping the twins have a better life, but bad when I just want to be left alone.

7. Are you introverted, extroverted, or an ambivert?

Introverted. I prefer to be alone with my thoughts.

8. Favorite food?

Bangerdon nut bread.

9. Do you have a role model?

I am nothing like any of people, but if I were to choose someone I wished to be more like it would be Mender Fjord. He has been a father to me and my brothers in more ways than one, but I am nothing like him. I will never be like him because I am a failure.

10. Alright, last question—if you could have 1,000 dollars, what would you do with it and why?

Set up a good life for Rivier and Zee and leave them. They needed Rio, not me.
